Saturday, June 3, the Textile Playground exhibition will open at IKEA Museum. The exhibition is an introduction into the changing world of textiles. With a stamp in the modern Swedish textile history, visitors can explore classic patterns and textile prints. Visitors will also see how different patterns and textiles affect life at home as well as being given the opportunity to create their own completely customized interactive patterns.
Few interior details are recognized as much as patterned textiles. They tell you something about who you are and a lot about our time and trends. Dots, flowers and stripes, what patterns do you remember? How did the curtains look like from your childhood home, what patterns did you choose for your first own home and how do you decorate today? Textile Playground lets visitors discover IKEA’s many textiles and patterns that have during a long time been a part of the many people’s homes.
”The visitors get to see what we have done at IKEA within textiles and get an insight into the craftsmanship behind a pattern. We also look into the textile industry’s major challenges, enabling visitors to gain insight into the future thought of sustainability and showcase exciting new materials and solutions.”, explains Camilla Junger, Exhibition manager at IKEA Museum.
In particular, Textile Playground is about creating, by yourself and together with others. It is an exhibition aimed at visitors of all ages. Old as young, it’s about playing and letting out your creativity. It is an interactive exhibition where visitors can create patterns and different textile products using digital installations and sewing machines.
“We hope the exhibition will make more people discover the possibilities of patterns and that it can inspire a more fun life at home,” says Raphael Bartke, Project leader for the Textile Playground exhibition at IKEA Museum.
The Textile Playground exhibition will open on June 3 and will continue until January 2018.
