We now present the best of the huge variety of tableware that IKEA has produced between 1959 and 2024. Meet old acquaintances from your first ‘starter box’, or modern classics like 365+, and discover the long line of plates that all belong under the heading “more beautiful everyday items”. The exhibition also looks ahead, for instance with parts of the SILVERSIDA series, which consists of 70% recycled ceramic material.
The Table Is Set
09.11.2024-23.02.2025
Ceramic is probably one of mankind’s oldest inventions. As long ago as 20,000 years or so, human hands began to shape everyday objects out of clay and harden them in the sun. IKEA didn’t introduce RONDO, its own self-made earthenware, quite that long ago, but by then the brand had already been selling crockery and cutlery since 1959.
Having seen all these plates from 1959 onwards, we may even have helped to answer the question: What’s the best way to set the table to make it both beautiful and appetising? One fun and practical aspect is how to fold napkins, something people of all ages can learn to do in our The Table Is Set exhibition.
