Discover futuristic folklore, heavy soap bubbles and multifaceted modules with flexible forms – as well as the recipient of this year’s IKEA scholarship – at the Young Swedish Design exhibition 2024. The exhibition showcases everything from astrologically inspired outfits, to a chaise longue shaped like sleeping seals, and the history of the Orsa folk costume from riches to rags. There are also gardens adorned with earth and sand, a sculptural exploration of colonial connotations, and silhouette-creating costumes. All the winners of Young Swedish Design 2024 are fine examples of the energy on the creative young scene today.

– This year’s winners show a high quality of design and a creative approach to problem-solving. […] They are not just young Swedish designers, they are also young Swedish designers with a sustainable vision. Björn Nordin, MD Svensk Form – the Swedish Society of Crafts and Design.

The 2024 IKEA scholarship went to Mia Lehtonen Madsen for the project The Sky Is The Mirror. From the judges’ comments: “Mia explores the field of analogue and digital crafting opportunities in hand-woven, rope-braided and digitally jacquard-woven garments, a very powerful combination of handicraft and technique.” Eva Lilja Löwenhielm and Johan Ejdemo, Design Managers at IKEA of Sweden.

The Young Swedish Design exhibition 2024 is a co-production between Svensk Form and Dunkers Culture House. The project is presented in association with IKEA of Sweden, IKEA Museum, the City of Malmö, Stockholm Furniture Fair, Swedish Wood, and a raft of scholarship providers and exhibition organisers.
