SMOG was designed by lighting designer Uno Dahlén and could be seen as a playful new interpretation of older lamps designed by Uno Dahlén in the 1960s and ’70s. SMOG was first seen in the 1994 IKEA catalogue and stayed in the catalogue until 1997.

The SMOG floor lamp was part of a new style from IKEA called “Young Swede”, which would have a young, rebellious, colourful expression with roots in the youthful 1970s profile at IKEA.
